Evolve A Cell Wiki

Eggs, Hatching & Family

Death isn't the end of a lineage in Evolve a Cell. You can lay eggs, hatch creatures you've discovered, and carry on as your own descendant.

Laying eggs

Partway through a run you may get the message “You laid an egg. It hatches in 20 hours.” The timer is real time, so the egg keeps going while you're offline.

Players also noticed they could destroy eggs out in the world, so the pond isn't always safe for them.

Hatching

When you start a new life, the game can offer to hatch something you found. In one guide, the player hatched an abyssal-looking creature that started noticeably scarier than a basic cell.

Discovering species seems to feed this: the skill tree has a node that lets you spot new species from further away.

Descendants & family tree

When you die, you can descend — continue as the next generation (“Descendant generation 2”) instead of starting from scratch.

The game tracks this in a Family / history view. Wiping out other players' lineages is part of the fun — one creator celebrated ending “an entire family tree line”.

Help wanted

We haven't seen a full list of hatchable creatures yet. If you've hatched something, a screenshot of the hatch screen helps us fill this page in.
